Chiropractic Care Q & A

What Exactly Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care helps patients overcome particular ailments and improve their general health. The field focuses on using natural and non-invasive procedures, rather than surgeries and medications. Many of the treatments offered by a chiropractor, focus on preventing diseases and conditions and are often paired with recommended lifestyle changes to help patients lead truly healthy lives.

Some of the services that chiropractors offer include:

  • manual adjustments, including spinal adjustments and extremity adjustments

  • ergonomics help and consultation

  • pain relief treatments, including treatments for back and neck pain

  • posture correction

Who Is Chiropractic Care For?

Many people can benefit from chiropractic care. Because many of the procedures and treatments that chiropractors offer are non-invasive and natural, they can often be done even if a patient has an underlying health concern. Both patients who have specific ailments and those who simply want to improve their overall health may want to see a chiropractor.

How Long Do Chiropractic Treatments Take?

Most chiropractic treatments take just part of a day and are done as outpatient procedures. When treatments are finished, patients can usually return to their home, school or office immediately. They typically don’t need to remain in the chiropractor’s office for observation.

Is Chiropractic Care Covered by Health Insurance?

Many health insurance policies provide full or partial coverage for chiropractic care. Whether a patient’s particular treatment is covered by their health insurance plan, however, will depend on several factors:

  • the terms and conditions of their plan

  • whether the patient has been diagnosed with an ailment

  • what type of chiropractic procedure is done

  • whether the chiropractor is in the health insurance plan’s network

Additionally, some health insurance policies only cover chiropractic care when it’s deemed medically necessary or appropriate by a medical doctor. Patients whose policies only cover chiropractic care when a medical doctor recommends the care may be able to work with their primary care physician or a specialist to get a recommendation.
